My First Car – 1971 Toyota Corona Sedan

My First Car – 1971 Toyota Corona Sedan

by Natalka Lee

We bought our very first car in 1977. It was a navy blue, 1971 Toyota Corona Sedan. Since my husband didn’t have a driver’s permit, this little gem was mine!!! I loved that car, maybe because navy blue was my favorite color or maybe because it was my first car! We went everywhere – I kept it in top condition. This little sedan was perfect for us and we kept her till 1984.

Whenever I came to a stop, I would push on the brake and a little click sound could be heard. That was the sound of the brake light going before the car slowed down. This was like a little secret weapon because if anyone was tailgating, all I had to do was touch my brake pedal and the driver behind me would back off! I loved that feature.

To this day, I still call that my favourite car, it was my first bit of independence and lots of great adventures.

Jewelry and Cars

Jewelry and Cars

by JR from Dallas

In the world of status symbols men and women tend to gravitate towards different types of ways of improving the ways others see them.

When it comes to status for men one of the main symbols of status are fancy possessions such as a nice car.

While for women it is objects that emphasize beauty like jewelry.

I am going to break down how men and women use these things to show their worth.

Cars

First of all one of the main status symbols for a man is a nice car. The reason most men are drawn towards nice cars is that they show off the man’s status. By driving a nice car a man shows he has an abundance of resources that he can use to spend on the car. When it comes to choosing a mate one of the main things a woman uses to make her decision is if that man has enough resources to provide for her and kids that she has or will have. When a woman sees that nice car she will think now that is a man who has what it takes to go get that money and provide for me.

Jewelry

Now for women one of the things they use to enhance their status is jewelry. By selecting and wearing the right type of jewelry she can really enhance how she looks. Since one of the main things men look for in women is physical attractiveness. By being attractive women can show that they are of good health and can bear children as safely as possible. A lot of jewelry is designed to catch the eye by adding some sparkle to a women’s look. For men the price and brand of the car is very important to show that he has resources. For women though the price and brand of the jewelry is not important as long as it enhances their looks since men are typically not looking for a provider in a women.

If any of women reading this are looking for some great fashion jewelry to enhance your looks for the right price. Head over to The Venus Jewelry Exchange at https://jewelryofvenus.com to check out a great selection of stylish jewelry. Thanks for reading.

CAR  VS  CAR

VOTE IN THE COMMENT WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHY

CLUE CLUB BUGGY   VS   MYSTERY MACHINE VAN

In this corner:  Clue Club Buggy

Clue Club is a 30-minute Saturday morning animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and broadcast on CBS from August 14, 1976 to September 3, 1977.

Similar in format to Hanna-Barbera’s successful Scooby-Doo, the show centers around four adolescent friends who open the title’s private investigation agency out of Larry’s suburban residence. They are Larry (19), Pepper (18), D.D. (16) and Dottie (13). They solve mysteries with the help of their two talking hounds, Woofer and Whimper. The dogs only talked to each other and the camera, they were not understood by the human characters. Clue Club mysteries usually involved investigating bizarre crimes such as a movie director vanishing or a two-ton statue disappearing into thin air. Their relationship to the police was closer than most of Hanna-Barbera’s variations of the formula, with the local Sheriff often requesting their assistance on cases as well as making arrests at their conclusion.

And in this Corner: Mystery Machine Van

Each of these episodes features Scooby and the four teenage members of Mystery, Inc.—Fred, Shaggy, Daphne and Velma—arriving at a location in the Mystery Machine, a van painted with psychedelic colors and flower power imagery. Encountering a ghost, monster, or other ostensibly supernatural creature terrorizing the local populace, they decide to investigate. The kids split up to look for clues and suspects while being chased at turns by the monster.

Eventually, the kids come to realize the ghost and other paranormal activity is actually an elaborate hoax, and—often with the help of a trap designed by Fred—they capture the villain and unmask him. Revealed as a flesh and blood crook trying to cover up crimes by using the ghost story and costume, the criminal is arrested and taken to jail, often repeating something nearly identical to “… and I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!”

So go ahead and have some fun.

My First Car – 1973 Dodge Colt Wagon

My First Car: 1973 Dodge Colt Wagon

by Kristin Casey

1973 dodge colt wagon

My first car was a hand-me-down. It had been my older sister’s for three years before I got it, on my way to college in 1985, at seventeen. I drove 553 miles—eight hours of nothing but hot sun, tumbleweeds, and Dairy Queens—from Amarillo to Austin in that 1973 Dodge Colt wagon.

It was mustard colored, with a broken radio, nonexistent AC, and rear window plastered with punk band stickers, from Crass and Conflict to Social Distortion and Suicidal Tendencies. (I could barely see the cars directly behind me but if they got close enough to read my abrasive sticker medley they’d fall back on their own fairly quickly, anyway.)

I was not a good driver.

I managed the complexity of a manual transmission better than the simplicity of a four-way intersection. I was a kid in some ways, with a still developing brain quick to embrace the power and freedom of car ownership, yet slow to grasp the rules of the road that I shared with other
drivers and their families.

It was a hatchback, roomy enough to cart around 4-5 rowdy punks every weekend night—bunch of amateur driving instructors shouting randomly to go faster, slower, signal, look out, don’t hit that truck, speed through yellow and stop on red you idiot. I’d get in free to punk shows in exchange for hauling band equipment to Dallas or Houston, once in the worst storm I’d ever seen.

I learned what fishtailing meant and how to pump the brakes (we did that back then), how to change a tire and what it felt like driving on a rim (not necessarily in that order). I learned the hard way when to check its fluid levels

(hint: before billows of steam block every inch of your view through the windshield).

At nineteen I passed down the mustard mobile to my younger sister.

cutless supreme

Then I bought an ’82 Cutlass Supreme with burgundy interior and double tinted windows, a functioning radio, automatic transmission, zero punk rockers, and plenty of room for stripper gear and a girlfriend or two, to drive to the lake on weekends, to watch the sunset, drinking margaritas on the patio of Austin’s famed Oasis restaurant.

Gilles Villeneuve Oil Painting

From the author: The painting you are looking at was made for a school friend who is still mourning the loss of this wonderful amazing man Gilles Villeneuve. It is a representation of Gilles Villeneuve ‘s first win at the Grand Prix of Montreal (Not his first win but first on that track) in 1978. Thank you for taking the time to appreciate this painting.

My name is Giulia Montesi. Born and raised in Montreal and presently living here.

My art is very versatile because I’m influenced by different people. Walt Disney is my inspiration and I also love Norman Rockwell. I use various mediums in my work; ranging from oils to acrylics and watercolors.

I’ve also used cold porcelain for my bas relief series. The reason I use so many different mediums is cause I like variety in my work so that it can appeal to different people. Having degrees in both animation and illustration and design I like everything from bright saturated colors to soft pastels. I made an animation on the subject of bullying which I marketed to schools and school boards that won me various grants. I’ve worked for companies such as Ubisoft and Disney as well as other lesser known studios.

My work has been exhibited in various places.

1989 Batmobile on Ridiculous Rides

A REAL-LIFE superhero has turned down six-figure offers for his home-made 1989 Batmobile for hire – so he can continue helping sick children. Batman fanatic Zac Mihajlovic, from Camden, Australia, hand-built his very own street legal version of the car from the 1989 film starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. And the car has whipped up a reaction wherever it has been seen. Businessmen from across the world, including a Sheik in Dubai, have offered Zac big bucks for the Batmobile. But rather than cash-in on his dream machine, Zac decided to use his powers for good by teaming up with Make-A-Wish Australia, who make dream’s come true for terminally-ill children.

Ridiculous Rides is a episodic program about finding common ground with uncommon people and join us on an epic road trip as we live, eat and turn spanners with big characters and their ridiculous rides!
